There’s an explosion of pure enthusiasm permeating on Twitter right now, and its not difficult to see why. After countless attempts and obstacles, America finally has a Super Battle Opera title under its belt thanks to EG|Justin Wong. Breaking through the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 bracket with a keen sense of determination, Justin rocketed to grand finals and made quick work of the set in order to secure first place. It’s a goal that so many have attempted to reach without promise, and Justin made it look easy.
Another strong player worth mentioning is Eliver “Killer Kai” Ling, who represented SoCal incredibly but was unfortunately knocked out in the third round. Kai and Justin were both strong favorites going into this, and it feels good to finally see the red, white, and blue taking home the gold from SBO. It’s also worth noting that Hsien Chang was able to secure a third place finish in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition ver. 2012 along with his teammates RB and AVerMedia|Gamerbee.
A few gut reactions from twitter:
During EVO 2010, when Justin lost to Gamerbee, I heard some kid remark, “You see that? The era of Justin Wong is over.” I’d like to hand him the picture posted above as I smile smugly, knowing that it never ended in the first place.
