FingerCramp’s Y’Know Starring Chris G – UMvC3 Team Composition

FingerCramp recently asked their fans to write in with their Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 team compositions so Chris G could analyze them. Now, Chris G responds in FingerCramp’s newest series, “Y’Know.” In this video, Chris G critiques the team submissions he received and discusses how to make them better. Most of the teams are solid enough, but some could use a few tweaks to their order, or a replacement for a low-tier or redundant character.

I think people needed to submit team comps and some of the tech that they use with their teams for Chris to actually dissect and judge. Hard to judge these rogue teams without knowing the mixups and tech that they use and why they themselves think it’s good.

they are both somewhat zoning/keep away characters of the same type. Either jump/shield or jump/magnum. Very similar playstyles. Picking 3 different playstyle characters forces the opponent to adjust, and also gives you more options for countering who they currently have on point.

  captain america has a terrible projectile. only reason cap players throw it is to get the hit on the comeback. it makes for mixups. high/ low / throw mixups. but he def isnt a zoner like chris. plus captain does big damage. chris doesnt.

    Chris has the potential to do big damage easy, but the thing is his strength is Zoning. You will rarely be able to confirm into a combo, but if you do end up confirming, it’s a dead character easily.

  Captain America isn’t a keep away character. Shield slash has its use obviously, but not for keep away. Especially considering how easy it is to avoid.

I don’t get how he said Cap is low tier. He’s at worst low/mid-mid tier. Also agreeing with you on your question, how is Cap the same as Chris? I main Cap, and he definitely isn’t low tier or function like Chris. While Chris has no real similar move to Cap at all, so I fail to see the comparison. If I’m missing something on how they’re similar, please tell me people. If you decide to reply to me, please use examples.

Side note: I’m not a fan of Chris G to begin with. Zoners, although a legitimate tactic, are very “cheap” to me. We’re playing fighters, meaning physical combat, not FPS’s. Also friends/players I’ve met who use Morrigan, hardly ever use his tactic(Lame G), WHICH ISN’T “NEW”, saying that even though its good, its not how a “REAL”(not my words) Morrigan plays. Honestly though, that tactic has been around since vanilla. Not really ground breaking.

  Pro players who do play Morrigan that I have seen(ChrisG, Di3minion, NerdJosh) all do that tactic. Still doesn’t mean that is the “right” way to play Morrigan.IMO, Any way to play Morrigan is the right way to play her(except ground dashing and not using fly),because she is a versatile character.

    You have a valid point on the projectile itself, but what I meant(failed to iterate on my part) is that just because a character HAS a projectile, doesn’t mean its meant to be utilized as a tool for zoning. With what you said in mind, shouldn’t Hulk be a considered a non physical combat character?
    
    We all know Hulk is NOT a projectile heavy character. He has it as a tool to combo. Not his only means of attack. Same with Captain America. His shield throw is mainly meant for combos. I’ve learned this after years of playing Cap since MvC2. And I have tried multiple strategies with him. And mid-short/short(yes there is a difference) range is his best area.

  He only zones in UMVC3. He pretty much goes in hard on SF4/KoF13/SFxT etc.
  
  And nobody uses that tactic because it’s really f’ing hard to do. Have you tried it? That shit is so hard to pull off consistently. ChrisG is the first person to use her and that tactic and win because he figured out how to cover Morrigan and he’s even changed how he plays her over time as well as he played it way different a while back and is now a hell of a lot more efficient at it.

If ChrisG wants to start giving out advice, he needs to start explaining. For the people who don’t play Chris or Capt., they wouldn’t know what he meant when he said they play the same way so therefore, switch one of them out. His answers were too short and unclear.

  Chris can zone.

iron man has tons of potential…the game is still too young to say that anyone is garbage…people just go with the easy stuff and characters the require a little bit more effort than others is automatically low tier…people these days…Watch Iron Man Hsienko and Thor gonna be top tier later on down the line
